Air pollution is mainly caused by Traffic,
burning of fossil fuels (like coal, wood, agricultural residue), industrial
plants, factories and construction activities. These activities produce high levels
of Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbons (HC), Nitrogen Oxides (NO), sulfur dioxide
and Dust (particulate matter) Pollution. When these harmful gases, dust and
smoke enters into the atmosphere, it makes it difficult for plants, animals and
humans to survive as the air becomes dirty. These are all man-made
contributions towards air pollution. It’s a problem that humans cause through ignorance
or stupidity. Virtually all of vehicles are powered by petroleum, exhausts from
engines contain all kinds of pollution, and energize it with sunlight and you
get the sometimes brownish, sometimes bluish fog of pollution we call smog (a combination of the words "smoke" and
"fog"), although smog can happen in any busy city, it's a particular
problem when air gets colder. The trouble is, we can’t tell how pollution is
affecting us, or know how it might harm us in months, or even years in the
future. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution is one
of the world's biggest killers: it causes around two million people to die
prematurely each year and many of these deaths happen in developing countries
like in India but that does not mean developing nations
do not face problem, they do!
If you think by staying at your home is the safest
option—you are probably wrong, because, air is constantly moving. So, as a Air pollution
isn’t someone else's problem, it is ours and raising awareness and changing behavior can
help. On a larger scale, governments (both at state, central and global level)
needs to take measures to limit emissions of gases. Drive should be started by
governments (without politicizing the issue!) to clean air before it is too late!!
